Bio:

Dr. Ellen Conte (nee McDonell) is a naturopathic doctor and clinical researcher with a focus in integrative cancer care. Ellen works with people for cancer prevention, complementary care during active cancer treatment, and cancer survivorship. Ellen uses an evidence-based and practical approach to support people with a range of concerns including side effect management, quality of life concerns, recurrence risk, and overall health. Ellen also welcomes patients with general health concerns. In addition to her clinical practice, Ellen is an associate researcher with the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and Patterson Institute for Integrative Oncology Research where she studies the effects of a complementary and integrative approach to healthcare. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented at academic conferences.

Ellen received her degree in biochemistry from the University of Ottawa before obtaining her Doctor of Naturopathy from The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.  She then completed an oncology-focused residency at the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre. Ellen is board certified in naturopathic oncology through the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology—the only naturopathic doctor in Atlantic Canada with this designation. Ellen is Chair of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physician’s Research Committee and sits on the editorial review board for the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors Journal. Ellen is a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians and Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, is registered in good standing with the Nova Scotia Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, and is a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology.

Born and raised in Halifax, Ellen lived in Ontario for over a decade before moving back East with her husband in early 2021. An avid runner and triathlete, when not at work she’s often outside training and enjoying nature, or spending time with her husband and daughter.
